A Mission Bigger Than a Health Camp
On 14th November, World Diabetes Day, DEFEAT DIABETESE – “એક યુદ્ધ ડાયાબિટીસ વિરુદ્ધ”, an initiative of Shivam Charitable Trust, achieved something extraordinary. What started as a vision to protect those who protect society became one of India’s most remarkable preventive healthcare movements.
Under the leadership of Dr. Prakash Kurmi, Founder of DEFEAT DIABETESE and Shivam Charitable Trust, a Mega Diabetes Screening Campaign was successfully conducted across Ahmedabad City Police stations. The mission focused on providing free Random Blood Sugar (RBS) screening to police personnel who dedicate their lives to public safety while often neglecting their own health.

The Inspiration Behind the Mission
For more than 27 years, Dr. Prakash Kurmi has worked as a Diabetologist, serving thousands of patients and promoting diabetes awareness. Through Shivam Charitable Trust, he had already conducted numerous diabetes screening programs for BSF jawans serving at India’s borders.
During these healthcare initiatives, Dr. Kurmi realized that lifestyle diseases such as diabetes affect not only civilians but also uniformed forces who work under immense pressure and irregular schedules.
A discussion with Shri Gyanendra Singh Malik, Commissioner of Police, Ahmedabad, inspired a new idea:
“If healthcare can reach our soldiers, why not our police personnel?”
This simple thought became the foundation of a historic healthcare mission.
Planning a Record-Breaking Initiative
What followed was not just a health camp—it was one of the largest diabetes screening initiatives ever conducted for police personnel in a single day.
For an entire month, the core organizing team worked tirelessly to transform this vision into reality.
Special recognition goes to:

- Mr. Yashpalsinh Mahida

The team created an extensive operational strategy, forming 59 dedicated teams to cover police stations across Ahmedabad city. Every detail—from volunteer coordination and logistics to screening equipment and reporting—was carefully planned.

The Power of 300+ Volunteers
One of the most inspiring aspects of this initiative was the overwhelming support from more than 300 volunteers.
Students, doctors, healthcare professionals, and social workers came together with one purpose: protecting the health of those who protect society.
The participation of Ahmedabad’s leading medical institutions played a crucial role in making this mission successful.
Our sincere gratitude to:

59 Police Stations, 4,000+ Police Personnel, One Mission
On World Diabetes Day, 59 teams simultaneously reached police stations across Ahmedabad.
More than 4,000 police personnel underwent diabetes screening through Random Blood Sugar (RBS) testing.
The initiative focused on early detection, awareness, preventive healthcare, and encouraging police personnel to prioritize their health.
The scale of execution demonstrated what can be achieved when healthcare institutions, volunteers, educational organizations, and law enforcement agencies work together for a common cause.

More Than a Record
For Dr. Prakash Kurmi and Shivam Charitable Trust, this achievement was never about records.
It was about saving lives through awareness.
It was about identifying diabetes before complications occur.
It was about reminding every police officer that their health matters.
Most importantly, it was about building a healthier future for those who dedicate their lives to serving the nation.
A Mission That Continues
Today, DEFEAT DIABETESE – “એક યુદ્ધ ડાયાબિટીસ વિરુદ્ધ” continues to spread awareness, provide screening services, and connect patients with expert diabetic care.
The mission that began with BSF jawans has expanded to police personnel, communities, corporate organizations, schools, and rural populations across India.
As Dr. Prakash Kurmi often emphasizes, diabetes awareness is not a one-day event—it is a continuous movement.
Together, we are not just conducting health camps.
We are creating a healthier India.
