When the nation sleeps peacefully, our Border Security Force (BSF) soldiers stand awake at the frontlines—under the scorching sun, in chilling winters, and during stormy nights. These guardians of our nation sacrifice the comfort of home so that ordinary citizens can live in safety. But who protects the protectors? This question gave birth to our flagship initiative, “Protect the Protectors”, in 2012.

The Journey of Care (2012–2025)

In the beginning, our focus was simple: provide basic health checkups for soldiers posted along the Gujarat frontier. Many jawans, stationed miles away from hospitals, often ignored their health. Through small medical camps, we started conducting free consultations, testing, and distributing medicines.

Slowly, this effort grew into something much bigger. By 2015, we had organized over 50 health camps, reaching thousands of soldiers. By 2020, the number had crossed 10,000 BSF jawans served. And in 2025, we proudly stand at over 12,000 protectors cared for, supported by 400+ volunteer doctors, nurses, and trustees.

Beyond Health: Infrastructure & Comfort

We realized that healthcare was only one side of the story. The real hardships soldiers face are in their day-to-day living conditions at the border.

  • In summer, standing for hours in a tin-roof cabin meant bearing temperatures above 50°C. We introduced security cabins built with foreign insulating materials, reducing inside temperature by nearly 15°C. For a soldier, that difference means life, not just comfort.
  • In several BSF posts, there were no lights at night. Soldiers carried out patrols in complete darkness. We installed solar-powered street lights, ensuring that even in the most remote stretches, the border never goes dark again.
  • For mobility, we provided cycles and e-rickshaws—small changes that brought big relief in daily life. Soldiers could now commute within the border campus easily, saving energy for their real duty.

These were not luxuries—they were necessities. Each effort was a reminder to our soldiers: “You are not forgotten. We stand with you.”

Impact in Numbers (2012–2025)

  • 12,000+ BSF soldiers reached through camps.
  • 25+ border locations covered across Gujarat frontier.
  • 400+ volunteers participated, including doctors & trustees.
  • 200+ cataract & specialized treatments provided to BSF families.
  • 50+ solar lights, 10+ e-rickshaws, and 40+ bicycles donated.
  • 4 high-tech cabins built with temperature-reducing technology.

The Human Side

Numbers tell one part of the story. The real impact lies in the faces of jawans.

  • A soldier once told us after stepping into the new cabin: “Sir, yeh cabin ke andar aate hi aisa lagta hai jaise hum ghar ke fan ke niche khade hai.” (“It feels like standing under a fan at home.””)
  • Another jawan, during a solar lamp installation, said: “Pehle andhere mein duty karte waqt darr lagta tha, ab roshni hai toh himmat aur bhi hai.” (“Earlier, patrolling in darkness was frightening, now with light we feel more confident.”)

These are the moments that define Protect the Protectors.

Future Goals (2025–2030)

As we move ahead, our vision is ambitious:

  • Expand medical coverage to every BSF camp in Gujarat frontier by 2027.
  • Serve 25,000+ jawans by 2030.
  • Build 20 more temperature-controlled cabins.
  • Install 200 solar lights across posts.
  • Provide 10,000 trees for green cover inside BSF campuses.

Because the soldiers of our nation deserve more than survival—they deserve dignity, comfort, and care.

At Shivam Charitable Trust, we don’t see this as charity. We see it as our duty—to stand beside those who stand for us.
